Greens oppose Moil mining plan in tiger corridor

Moil is already operating 10 mines, of which six are located in Maharashtra. Such permissions in tiger corridor areas should not be granted at the cost of tigers and forests, said the activists.

NGOs working for tiger conservation have urged the state government not to grant drilling permission to Manganese Ore India Limited (Moil) at Lanjhera in Bhandara division, in the Pench-Nagzira-Navegaon tiger reserve corridor.

TOI had on September 5 reported that the PCCF office is giving drilling permission in 2.180 hectares protected forest land to Moil in Lanjhera. The area is part of the 24.37-hectare forest proposed to be diverted for ore mining.
