This is how mining lobby plays around with language and terms like “sustainable mining” and ‘clean coal’.
“Coal will remain India’s main source of commercial energy in the medium term. However, the pressing need to put in place norms for safe and efficient mining, evacuation and beneficiation of coal, with least damage to the environment has been neglected. In tandem, we need to boost thermal efficiency and mandate ultra-supercritical and advanced ultra-supercritical boiler technology. India must pursue clean coal technologies, including coal gasification and ‘quick starts’ in thermal plants, for better systemic integration with renewable energy.”
